Director’s Statement

Harvest Lake

Harvest Lake began as a creature feature, but quickly evolved into a movie that was more about sex and the Id. The creature in the story is a mean to that end, but the conflict is between the characters and their own impulses. I think many of us have a healthy adversarial relationship with our sexuality and our subconscious. That struggle is what keeps us human. But what happens when we let the Id win? Can sex change us forever? Can it destroy us? I enjoyed making Harvest Lake as a fun, weird, and sexy way of exploring these questions. I hope audiences find it both disturbing and arousing. — Scott Schirmer
